How can you sell your home quickly and for top dollar if you have pets?

The good news is that in this day and age, it’s more acceptable to have pets in the home. Surveys show that many millennial homebuyers look for homes that specifically have an adequate environment for their pets.

There are still some things you need to take care of to make sure your home sells, though. I have three tips in particular that will help your home sell quicker and for more money:

People are inclined to prejudge a home’s condition if there are pets in it.

1. Repair any damage done to the home by your pet(s). We all know that our furry friends sometimes like to chew, dig, and cause a little damage here and there. Get that stuff patched up and it will pay off in the long run.
2. Hire a professional to remove any pet odors. We all know that keeping pets comes with a cost, and when people walk into a house that has a pet odor, it might turn them off. Taking care of your home’s pet odors will help you avoid that situation altogether.
3. Remove any pets from the home when showing it. Having pets in the house during a showing can be a distraction, whether the prospective buyer likes pets or not. If they like pets, they might want to play with them more than view your home. If they don’t like pets, their presence might make them standoffish and distracted during the viewing, and it might make them not want to buy it. People are inclined to prejudge a home’s condition if there are pets in it. They might assume there will be pet damage and/or odors in the carpets when in fact you might’ve already taken care of those things.

If you have any questions about selling your home with a pet, you have a topic you’d like me to cover in a future video, or you’re thinking about buying or selling a home in our Northern Virginia market, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d love to help you!
